The River Dart, Totnes

We have a hidden secret, while we live for the seaside and coastal stays. Devon actually has some of the most beautiful countryside in the world! And The South Hams is some of it.

If you are lucky enough to come and stay with us, we recommend taking a day to Totnes. It is home to some wonderful shops, a farmers food market which happens every Friday and Saturday. And The beautiful River Dart.

One sunny afternoon we took a kayak alongside a short trip of the river. Starting at Dartington, Deer park, pay a small fee for your parking and walk down to the river. Along the banks are plenty of spots to camp out for the day. Safe, secluded and peaceful.

The current can be strong in places, but this really is a piece of Devon Heaven. The steam train coming past frequently,  fellow river euthanizes greeting us as we row along. Can you imagine what it would feel like already…
